The inaugural Indian Sports Honours (ISH) was held on the 11th of November, 2017. It was marked by a series of events aimed at engaging key stakeholders in the Indian sports community culminating in an awards ceremony where India’s best performers were recognized and rewarded for their achievements in their respective sporting disciplines.
The challenge in this project was to design a logo symbolising victory and it had to serve the dual purpose of being a logo and a trophy as well. The final design of the logo was a ribbon swirling into the shape of a ‘V’ for Victory. The ribbon was adopted into the design due to its an unmistakable and irreplaceable presence in symbols of honour and achievement in the sports arena. Right from a marathoner crossing a finish line to a heavy medal that hangs off of a celebratory ribbon, one cannot deny it relation to sports achievement. The swirl in the ribbon adds a necessary motion which marks the energy, enthusiasm and disciplined practice required of any sport or sportsperson.
To accentuate the fact that this award was truly appreciative and acknowledging the entire sports diaspora in the Indian context, simple icons of myriad sports were inscribed onto the delicate and dynamic ribbon.
